In Class and HW - 2/8/13

The links below access the collected surveys given in class on the first day of the semester. Use them to practice your data analysis skills and learn more to help you answer your question.

Front Side of Class Survey

Back Side of Class Survey

Your assignment is to peruse the survey and look for questions of interest (ideally ones related to your survey’s topic). Focus on two questions and then:

  •  Code the responses
  •  Run a basic statistical analysis – try calculate the mean, mode, median, standard deviation, etc. NOTE: not all of the questions lend themselves to calculating mean, SD, or median so just do the best that you can. Frequencies and mode can definitely be determined for even fully qualitative answers.
  •  Make inferences based on your analysis – ie. what is the data telling you?
Based on your analyses of the class surveys, carry out the following:
  • create a visual representation of the data from the question you studied (ex. a graph)
  •  draw a conclusion about the food choices or eating behaviors of School of the Future seniors enrolled in Food Science
    • support this conclusion by referring to specific pieces of data, calculations, statistical analyses, etc.

Carry out this process twice
